I just finished Baccano upon the recommendation of my brother and he is right, it is an outrageously fun series! It was stuffed full with action and fast sequences that made it heart-thumping to watch. The jumping timelines (1930, 1931, 1932) and colliding plots- the hostage crisis on board the train Flying Pussyfoot is seen from 8 different POVs- made the initial episodes utterly confusing but so absorbing and riveting. You just couldn't turn your eyes away from the show, because you'd miss some character or hint of foreshadowing. The characters were immense joy to watch too. There were so many of them- at least 17 characters were introduced in the opening songs and they each had their unique kink which made them essential to the story. I think that Baccano has one of the best villain cast too. They were simply fascinating to watch, especially Ladd Russo, Vino and Czeslaw. They were perverse and cunning, with a twisted set of morals, but they still had morals and a shard of humanity. Of course, the show wasn't all twisted, even with the amount of blood and violence shown. How can it be when Isaac and Miria are part of the main cast?? :D
So I'll elaborate more on the characters now. First, Ladd Russo, the sadistic psycho murderer and that would be a kind description already. He delights in killing people and spilling blood, especially the ones who feel that they are in an unshakeable position. Yeah, knock them off their high pedestals, except he goes to the extreme. He is such a repulsive character but argh, I was attracted to his character in a morbid way. I mean, he just commands your attention without effort ie. the scene where he gleefully sloshed around in his comrade's pool of blood while pledging revenge and hatred on the murderer. It helped that the seiyuu, Fujiwara Keiji, was awesome as well, changing from manical exhilaration to grave consideration in an instant. He was so different as Hanamoto Shuuji in Honey & Clover! He is so dayum versatile.
Speaking of seiyuus, I rabu rabu Luck Gandor's seiyuu, Koyasu Takehito! It is arrogant, scornful and sexy. And unique as well. Whoo, if only Takasugi could appear more often in Gintama. Anyway, back to characters- Czeslaw Meyer was the one I felt alot for. He could be cruel and mad, asking Russo to kill all the people in the dining car, but he had a reason. Okay, it may have been a weak reason but come on, he is so scarred! I mean, how can anyone not be after remaining as a little boy for 200 years? He can't grow up and has to deal with immortality and its complexities with limited experience. AND he has to constantly be on the guard for the other Immortals who want to devour him. Add that he has been physically and psychologically abused by Fermet, someone he trusted and regarded as a fatherly figure, and it's a wonder he hasn't had a complete breakdown. He is not naturally bad, it is the circumstances and what he had been through that dunked him into the world of evil. You could see that in the last episode, when he struggled with his cynicism and cunning, brought on by bad times and honed by survival instinct, upon meeting Maiza while holding back tears. All he wants is to be loved, really, and for 200 years, he hasn't had a sliver of concern from anyone. He is just a kid, after all. So yeah, I felt so happy when Isaac and Miria stumbled upon him. He needs people like them, people who overflow with good will.
Moving on to Isaac and Miria. HAHHAHA ISAAC AND MIRIA!! THEY ARE TOO CUTE! :D One of the best duos evaaar. They really do bring joy to people around them. Ditzy, eccentric, excitable, idiotic, immature, gullible, naive, whimsical, random, ahahaha they are absolute FUN! I laugh every time they appear on the screen. They are a couple that makes one go :DDDDDDD. There's no need to describe in words, just grinning about them would do. :D

Wow wow, I didn't know I had so much to talk about Baccano. Heheh, guess it's one of the series that makes an impact. Hoohoo, I'm hungry. Time for breakfast, terra.
