methrowrock: (My Neighbour Totoro)

Last month, two good friends flew back to Australia. Today, another flew off to the States. Next week, my forced-twin will have ended her summer vacation, and be on her way as well. Maybe it is the music, but I am awash in melancholy at this very moment. There was something casual, yet steadfast, about these friendships. The banter, the jokes, the laughs- they unspooled readily and fluidly. Months could pass, but things would still be effortless and unchanging. As the days get more confusing and hectic, it is easy to be thankful for such unassuming company.

Amidst the hullabaloo of semester restarting, there were plenty of fun times. I will now start on my usual haphazard summary.. The period between 2nd to 5th August was quite a blank. It must have been training/training/training. Let's skip to the day that I do remember: 8th August, Monday. That was the day when we had a friendly against Sporting Westlake. Before that, Em, Yitty, and I went to visit SY at SGH, where we had a great laugh over sound effects and kdrama re-enactments. Because we left late, we had to cab to NUS in a flurry of panic haha. SW was a fun team to play against, because you could tell that they threw themselves into the game with good spirit and laughter. Was given the opportunity to play about 25-30 minutes in the second half, and it was EXHILARATING. It was then when the hunger awoke in me. The slight tingling of excitement while seeing the ball volley back and forth. There isn't a feeling quite like working together with the defence line and making a few saves during a game. Ah, so this was the subconscious desire that moulded me to heed Em's suggestion. Watched The King's Speech in the wee hours of the morning after that, and it was a brilliant film. Humorous, assured directing, performances that tugged at the heartstrings, visually and aurally beautiful, it was quite an inspiration. 9th August was humdrum in comparison. Although there was a great buzz about National Day Celebration and Rag Parade, I couldn't muster the energy to head out in the afternoon. Instead, chatting online to similarly-indolent souls and catching up on Running Man proved to be quite enjoyable as well. Was looking forward to the next day as well: USS DAY WITH LAX!

It was a packed day filled with thrills and laughs. Originally, the 10 of us planned to meet at 9.30 in front of the Universal Globe, but things turned out different in reality. A few were late here and there, and shit-stirring started from the get-go. Making fun of each other, friendly fire as the free-for-all promotion was extended indefinitely, taking pictures before the touristy spots, laughing at QH's MOST HANSUM side, cooing and squealing over an adorable dancing baby, taking pictures in the queue, taking pictures outside the queue. The first attraction we visited was Madagascar: A Crate Adventure, where the most exciting part was when we scurried to hide our bags from water. (It never came.) After that was King Julien's, upon Zana's request, where we rode and down, and pretty much, just that. Eager for adrenaline kicks, we rushed to Battlestar Galactica, only to make a detour at Accelerator. That was pretty funny, because we were so giddy yet so enthusiastic about finding the DSLR HAHA. After that, CYLON!! True, we had to drag along the relunctant Best Bros, but we did it together, whooo. It was still as scary-fun as ever. In fact, I was panicking in the queue, because it had been more than a year since I last took it. (Before the refurbishment!) The same ole sinking feeling when you were the next to ride it; the same ole heart palpitations when you were being strapped in; the same ole "WTF-WAS-I-THINKING" as you tried to make the bars even more secure and find somewhere sturdy for your hands to grip. Nothing changed. I went crazy with nervous giggling as the platform was rolled down, when the coaster creaked up the steep tracks, when it accelerated halfway, and ZOOMMMM, we were launched into the sky. The drop after was a most delicious mixture of terror and adrenaline, as evidenced by everybody's decibel-busting shrieks. 360 degree turns, the rapid twists and curves, the two swoops into the basement, the cobra roll, all that was manageable beyond the first fright. Towards the end, I burst my stomach laughing at Kimberley, because her screams evolved from a high-pitched "AAIIIEEEE" to a growly "aaahhhhhhhhh" due to sheer exhaustion HAHAHAHA. Zana's stamina lungs were saluted as well HAHA. She kept shrieking the same note throughout the ride, and only paused to take in breaths AHAHHAA. Feeling indomitable, we headed to the Human ride. It was less intense, save for the first drop. But hey, it was still a good way to blow off steam. Intent on squeezing another ride out of the hour (and mostly, to cool down), we ran to The Mummy Returns. BSG had primed us, so it wasn't as exciting, though decent. By then, it was 1pm, and we were starving, so off we went for lunch. Along the way, Subway poses were a necessity next to the subway, the Metropolitan steps called for a Gossip Girl-esque picture, touristy-tourist shots once again. Finally reached Louie's NY Pizza Parlour after twenty minutes. (It is unsettling, how many names I can still remember.) Sat, ate, relaxed, teased and was teased, laughed, relaxed some more. Regained enough energy to head to Pantages for Monster Rock next! Waves of memories man, seeing the purple uniform again, a few of the old crew, reciting the stage lines- "你是个白痴,"- singing along with the cast, being decently impressed by Mark!Drac, discreetly following the dance moves. What was once home will never cease to seem familiar. Rushed to Shrek4D next, while lamenting about being a standing object and bumping another fist and laughing at shaky shots and random things. Got sprinkled on, got sprayed on, and after that, Waterworld time! We were quite drained when the show ended, so it was off to the Mummy to wake ourselves up! This time, we were all ready for the camerah~ Human ride, Lights Camera Action, Cylon ride, and the slow unwilling trudge to the exit. Photos! Jumpshots! More posing! Bundled out of USS after a couple hundred of photos, teehee. Dinner at Vivo was hilarious as well, what with the silent laugher Wyn (who emits a strangled gasp and scrunches up her face beyond recognition HAHA) and quiet-during-the-camp QH (who is really full of crap and framing) sitting around me. Explosive laughter when we heard SS's frustrated story about a person who never let him (and his friends) go HAHA. Mispronunciations, wrong phrasing, the littlest thing incited the greatest laughter. :D I was so thankful for the quiet ride home, after expending so much energy during the day. But it was a wonderful day indeed.

The following day, 11 August, Thursday, was a free day, so it was milling about while the rest moaned about the start of school. Hehe! Went to visit SY for a brief while with Em and Yitty. Made our way to Jalan Besar Stadium without much help, whoo! Final youth league game against NYP. Managed to play the entire game, which felt incredible, especially in such an overwhelming venue. 12 August, Friday, was my official first day at school. Pop Culture reminded me of Cultural Studies, which I loved. SSA had great company with Mitch and XL, whoo. Met up with Melin, Bilys, and Hubae after lecture. Talked, caught up, teased, deflected teasing by teasing HAHA, good ole times. 13 August: blisteringly hot during morning training, blusteringly cool during the afternoon. Hip-hop with the sister, then Nithiya's solo performance!!! She was incredibly good! Clean movements, sharp lines, riveting expressions: one couldn't help but be deeply drawn into the dance. So proud of her, and what she has accomplished. <3 Permission to be late = granted! Hahaha. Sunday was picnic at Utown with Lax! Talking, catching, bullshitting, noticing the bullshit of others and laughing, it was great to hang out. Rushed to town to meet Hubae, Bilys, Ah Wai, Kek, Yong, and Jelly. Shopped for a bit (making 2 quick present buys, whoo!) and then, home at last.

15 August was quite a fun day too. Lecture ended early at 5pm, so headed to print readings (because I am a conscientious student, hardeehaha) and ran into QH. Collected Wyn and Kimbo along the way. LHKB for a while too. Then, listening to QH's sad-kdrama life stories. That one, natural ACTOR hahaha. Mr ** came along after. Then, a hilarious training, despite the seemingly endless running. Everybody was a bit high. Side-effect from school, probably. Haha. Tuesday was reuniting with the Pingeon in the LT, and not paying much attention, because of the weird hijinks of the person next to you. Teehee! Ok, maybe it was just me. Gave my favourite online friend her favourite birthday present. You can never go wrong with JYJ for Lynette HAHA. MT Welcome Tea after that, which had a bunch of funny new girls. Wednesday was lecture, then shopping at Vivo with Yitty, visiting SY with her and Em, NJSG dinner at Bukit Timah. Yitty fell asleep while talking to us in SY's room AHHAHA. Then my turn, before the ever-hyper and ever-imaginative EMLHY turned up to enliven the somnolent atmosphere. Wrist grabs, back hugs, slamming of car doors, Korean handball players, cherished love at first sight with M***** AHA, our endless troupe of idols. Kyahaha, funny stuff. Too hungry during dinner, so we all just ate, before losing our marbles along with the marbled meat. Posing with coffee cans and orange peels, After School Blue and Red concepts HAHAHA. Then, our usual stopover at Udders, where we (mostly Yitty) had a HTHT session. Hope you like your present and dinner celebration, Em! Luff u nong time~

18 August wasn't such a great day though. Free day, but did not play well against Middle Rangers. 2-0, then 2-3. Recollecting the memories of that day still engenders a bitter feeling in the heart. Soccer is a team sport, yes, but I couldn't help feeling culpable, because I didn't do my part well enough for the team. They deserve to expect so much more. Should have stood higher up. Should have ran up more. Should have the guts to confront and challenge. Should have looked at how the leg was swinging. It is the shoulds and the what-ifs that are the hardest to bear. But they are a burden I must slowly learn to overcome. Not just imagine and desire; I must do. I will do. This weight, I haven't felt in a long time, which was why it was overwhelming. Not since.. A Div match against RJ? The disappointment in myself that chafed skin raw. Aiyaiyai. A never-ending road to improvement, and this is a rock I must kick away. Glad to have such nice company along the way. This has grown important to me now.

Friday was a much better day. Sat next to an indie-kid lookalike during lecture, who was friendly enough. Cheap thrills, ehe. SSA with Mitch and XL again. The lecturer is lovely! Longkang living and multi-coloured carparks haha. Soccer at 5pm. Fun training. Did better than Thursday, but still need to focus and improve more! Rushed for MT after that. When people around you call you crazy for joining two sports, they are probably right.. Hmm. Mom offered a lift, but cancelled, so helped QH out a bit and home it was. Saturday: hip-hop that never failed to be exhausting, dinner with the family at Por Kee. And today! Temple, dimsum, multi-tasking (reading + talking online + looking for songs, huzzah!), sending Kek off at the airport. :'( Long day, long recap, long long week ahead, so bye!
