FLYING MAN! WHOOSH!
Dec. 9th, 2007 01:26 amI could summarize the past four days in four words: netball, Heroes, The-Golden-Compass and hiphop. But how do I resist a chance to drabble on endlessly about fun, friends and fictional characters? I don't so ha, here goes.
Showed up in school early on Wednesday to play soccer. But it started raining after 15 minutes of kickabout. So we upped and left for the amphi which was not a great idea. The ball kept ricocheting off the steps, possessed by an innate desire to make contact with body parts haha. But twas fun. So was playing with the juniors later. Netball will always be fun to me. But we were pretty much cooked after 2 quarters so we mooched around the court for a long while before heading to town. Took neoprints. (!!) Then came stuffing ourselves silly with washoku at Sakae. The bill came up to $96 for 6 of us heh. There was a Gintama toy vending machine beside Sakae to my enormous surprise. I never knew Gintama was popular enough in Singapore to warrant a vending machine!! Yay for Gintama love! Hahaha of course, being a foolish geek, I slipped in 3 $1 coins into the slot before I could stop myself. But ended up with Yamazaki sadly. As if to echo my sentiments, the rain intensified and it was a breathless sprint to the Cine bus-stop. Thankfully, a sweet smiley ahma shared her umbrella with me along the way. Yay for 慈祥的 ahmas! Heheh. Overall, it was a jolly day, laced with undertones of sadness. I mean, it was sort of a farewell for Joanne as well. She's going off to Australia in a week and probably won't be back for another 2 years, seeing that her family has migrated to Shanghai. For the past 4 years, she has been an integral part of my life, seeing her and the rest of the team more than 9 hours a week. I have never really noticed it before but SCGS is the glue that binded us together. Within school, we are always shuffled together, thrusted next to each other by assemblies, recesses, lessons, lectures and the whatnot. Within such narrow boundaries, we were sure that the "see you later" will be realised and that our friendships will hold true. But remove SCGS, remove the essential adhesive, and what do we have? Nothing at all, no rules, our ties are cut loose. Depending on fate and determination, we may drift further apart as we trudge on our own paths. There is nothing to confine us and make us fulfil our responsibilities as a friend. And that is what saddens me- that I would lose a friend to the lashings of time and neglect. Of course, we all promise to "keep in touch" and "catch up with you soon", but who really does that? Okay, perhaps everyone, except me, does that. Still, fate can be so unpredictable that it is better not to expect too much. Alright enough, time to go on..
Yes, that is the overly-quoted line from HEROES. But it is a good summary of the plot haha. Spent Thursday cooped up in front of the tv watching HEROES and man, it was a mindblowing show! Hahaha kept smsing Jia in excitement as the plot unraveled, like "ZOMGZ, IS CLAIRE GONNA DIE!!??", "MR BENNET!!!", "SYLAR'S SURPRISINGLY YOUNG AND CUTE" haha. Yeah, it was an extremely enjoyable show, full of plot twists and sharp editing. At first, everything's "WTF IS THIS!?" but ah, the beauty of Heroes is revealed when things starts coming together like jigsaw pieces. You'd marvel at how the writers actually thought of linking XX to XXX, when initially, XX seemed to have no bearing on the plot whatsoever. I get why everyone is voting for PETER PETRELLI. He is such a nice guy, a good guy who isn't good to the point of irksome. And MR BENNET! I have always loved characters like MR BENNET, the classic misunderstood, initial villain (Beerraan to Hiro HAHAHA I LOVE THAT SCENE) who is actually a care(claire)bear at heart, who is hugely overprotective and who is willing to sacrifice anything for his family. And SYLARRRRR! He ish sho kakkoiiexx! Of course, it sickened when he committed the senseless murders, but his cruelty is part of his allure. It is more accurate to say that I'm a fan of Gabriel Gray though. Love love his nerdy glasses, he looked so adorable with them on. But with a mother like that, who kept wanting more from him, who kept telling him that he could be president if he wanted to, who kept adding pressure on him to be someone special when he is already a unique individual, it is no wonder that Gabriel Gray broke, with Sylar rising from his ashes. AND NATHAN! Hahaha I can keep going AND XXX! man. But I thought the final few episodes were kind of a letdown. It was not as dramatic as expected and it was quite corny at the end, when the 'good' characters had their turn to showcase their power in the pivotal battle against the baddie. And because of that, I sort of expected Nathan to turn up and save the day, because all the heroes had their turn except for him. And after 22 episodes of building up the momentum and tension about the big explosion, the bomb seemed to be resolved rather too simplistically. I'm not saying the ending was bad, it was just not as good as the rest. But oh Nathan! I'd always known that he'd come and resolve the problem, after all, he acknowledged that he was the big brother who would drop everything to fix Peter's problems and that he was humane enough to see that 0.07% of the human population still represented lives. But ahh, after seeing him tussle with the lure of presidency and a legacy, you weren't so sure about his goodness but but but he came through in the end and made the ultimate sacrifice!!! I CANT WAIT TO WATCH VOLUME II! I'LL START LOADING IT TOMORROW WAHA.
One of the funniest moments in HEROES in my opinion. In fact, most of the funny moments feature Hiro. "FLYING MAN! WHOOSH!" "Would you keep it down!?" "whoosh..." HAHAHA.
Okay I'm tired of typing already. The Golden Compass wasn't great and it wasn't bad either. It was okay, packed chockful with amazing backdrops, realistic CGI and beautiful action. But it was too compacted and hurried that there wasn't much heart to the story. Dakota Blue Richards and Nicole Kidman were phenomenal though. Hiphop was fun but confusing. Lost my bearings from the first step on. But terrible co-ordination and poor memory won't stop me from going for more classes haha. I have thick skin, yuh! Alrighty, time for Dragon Zakura. YAMAPI! Yes and I do realize how pointless and superficial my existence is.
