UNGLAM UNGLAM
Feb. 20th, 2008 09:46 pmAnd now, I am an NJCian. No more hesitating during the College Anthem; no more debates about whether to wear the NJ PE uniform; no more "they, they, they". The tribe has spoken- I am a part of "them" now. It feels weird because I last did this identity-assimilation thing 4 long years ago. The past 6 weeks were like a holiday, a day-camp where all you did was to interact and forge social bonds. Never mind about the learning outcomes, ie. how to draw ionic bonds, the emphasis was on the experiences and the times shared. It seems unreal that Jonathan, Sheng Hui, Wilson and Ming Liang won't be with us anymore, unless their appeals get through- something everyone is hoping for. It was only yesterday when Jonathan was making his lame remarks with his guai xu grin and shifty eyes; when Sheng Hui went "NYAHahaha" and made high-on-helium weird noises; when Wilson was rambling incoherently in his smart-aleck tone; when Ming Liang was yakking in his arrogant voice. Okay, I'm not really fond of the last two, but they were still a part of 08S11. We would all move on with our lives most probably, but things would be different and this happens to be one of the times when I dislike change.
On the other hand, I was really glad that Tiff Chai and Cheryl Bong are now in NJ, especially Tiff. Oh, there is so much fun to come in future. Today was a prime example. Estelle and I brought them both around the school and felt like mother hens when we had to shoo them off into LT 1. Ran into Tiff several times in the day and each time I laughed, I got assaulted by her. Tough love haha. It was a little quiet without Dilys, who was busy OGL-ing, but Grace and Cheryl are great company as well. So was Hian Kek HAHAHA. It was super fun fangirling with her. If the others knew what we were talking about.. good thing they don't haha. After school, we all went to the round-tables to observe O2 in progress. Grace the Eagle Eyes spotted his green bag and we both grew considerably happier after that. Too bad, her Cute Cute Boy (aka Chio Bu) has upgraded for good. Clarice also lightened up after seeing Ah Seng back in school. HAHA, oh the stupid aliases we give them. Hoho's New Comer now heh. Horse Face, Pumpkin, Genki Guy HAHA. We all skipped the STaR Symposium to catch the China national basketballers in action. Dayum, they were enormous. They were all 1 1/2 head taller than the NJ basketball team, if not more. And they could execute dunks with only a small, effortless hop. #23 kept teasing the players guarding by doing all sorts of tricksy ball-handling. Evil but funny heh. Sidekick didn't do much sadly but Grace looked really happy anyway haha.
Grace looked really happy after school on Monday as well. Our class went to the Banner Painting Area to do the Feedback (FEED BECK!) Box and coincidentally, the basketballers were having training as well. :D But Audrey told us something about him that shocked us so yeah. Anyway, Luther and Mylene started doing a plasticine mould of Beckham's face that turned out really funny heh. Laughed alot when we tried stopping Grace, Cheryl and Qiao Wei from leaving. Spitting Korean out is the way to go! Went to Curry Wok for dinner with Yu Hui, Audrey, Melinda, Dilys, Mylene and Jonathan. One word: Fun. Bus ride home with Dilys: Fun. :)
The only thing I remember about yesterday was soccer training then dinner at Mad Jack's. Soccer was uh, slack but hard-to-get. I can't dribble the ball for nuts. We played captain's ball during PE and argh, I miss tossing and catching balls with my hands. Mad Jack's with Grace, Cheryl, Dilys, Cassandra, Jonathan, Ming Liang, Melinda and Qiao Wei was mad fun. Everything seems to be fun. It seems that I either have low standards for defining fun, or that the things I do are really, well, fun heh. "Unglam" was the word of the day heh. :D Hand rubbing was the action of the day HAHA.
Moving on, CHINGAY. (!) Man, for all the times I grumbled about signing up, sighed about waking up early on Saturday mornings, complained about missing the Terra house outing, the actual parade day made it all worthwhile, especially after Saturday's parade was over. And I owe all this to US 27, which had wonderfully fun people like Susan, Amanda, Sing Hui, Xiao Yun, Jia Liu, Fang Hui, Filza, Carmen, Choon, Yan Xuan, Wei Jie and Wen Ling. I really enjoyed this whole experience thanks to them, especially Jia Liu, Fang Hui, Xiao Yun, Amanda and Sing Hui. US 27 ftw. :D
It wasn't all so happy and dandy however. Friday was quite a worrying day. I wasn't issued a tag, nor did I have a passport-sized photo. That made me feel like an illegitimate volunteer but as it turned out, many other people also did not receive their tags. The rehearsal was frankly quite screwed up. The timing was messy and there were long boring lulls in between. Made a new friend, Wei Fang, who's from MJ. She's from a different US group but found her standing behind me on the aisle. She likes anime AND studies at Bunka, what are the odds! Pity Wei Jie split us up later. Still, it was fun oohing and aahing with Susan at every little thing. She has an obsession for powerful figures zooming in on F1 cars HAHA. The cheem, poetic ending was lost on us though hais. All we understood was that there was a pesky red line going around linking a mother to a butterfly and such. HAHA. Boarded the last train home with Jia Liu and Wei Jie. Jia Liu is evil!, though she hides it well hahaha. The IP guy wasn't on the train though, so I ran all the way back home haha.
Saturday was da best really. It started and ended off well. My name was in the list, whoohoo, so I managed to be cleared for security easily. Underwent a metal detector check for the first time so that was cool haha. It was fun lugging cartons of bottles and ponchos up and dowdn the steps, generally looking busy and occupied. Talked alot to Carmen from RJ on Saturday as well, as she was just a couple of rows below me. And guess what, she has the same birthday as me. Talk about coincidences man. Once again, we managed to find a seat when the parade started and it was even better this time as we were all seated together whoohoo! The performances were much better as well. After the parade ended, we all went down to form a human wall. It was chaotic, because nobody knew what to do, but fun in the sense that we were all high and yelled chirpy "goodbye"s and "good night"s to the leaving spectators. Amanda went crazy with confetti HAHA. When that was done, the ushers all gathered near the tent and started their march on the parade route. That was the BEST part of the night. We were hyper and crazy, yelling our lungs out, going "WHOOOO!" at random moments, waving to no one in particular, saying good-bye to everyone and anyone including the policemen, high-fiving strangers along the barricades and doing the "MAI YO, MAI YO, MAI YO" + Chingay Dream Team cheer after every 20 steps or so. CHAOOOOOO HIGHHHHHH!!! HAHAHAHA. I had such a mindblowing time, with many thanks owed to Amanda who was rocketing HIGHHHH into the stratosphere haha. After all that excitement, walking back to Cityhall was a quieter affair, though we still continued saying farewell to all we met along the way. Did the YAAAAAAHHH cheer when we were gathered at the picnic stands, and the best thing was, PEOPLE RESPONDED AND RAN TO US, "YAAAAAH"ING!!! We probably gathered about 10~15 others NJCians haha. However, when we attempted to do the YAAAAAH again at the white tent, everyone around just gave us weird looks so we tried to turn that into a weird laugh, ie. YAAAAAAHHAHAHHAHA. HHAHAHA. Went off for late-night supper with Susan, Sing Hui and Amanda after the whole thing. Walked everywhere before settling at Gluttons Bay. There was an open-air movie screening there, how cool is that! Had a lot of fun talking and laughing with them three. Argh, I'm gonna miss them so much... :(
Still, I am really thankful for all the experiences I have went through this year. It has been only two months into the new year and yet, I have done more things than I ever did in 2 years in SCGS. It is definitely not SC's fault- it is mine and solely mine. I should have taken more initiative back then, probably said this a dozen timesover already. I'm glad how things have turned out so far and hopefully, it will only get better so till next time!
