wasted on you
May. 4th, 2008 10:19 pmAnd hello, I am back again. It has been too long. A good three weeks, I reckon. Events that had been clearly marked apart in my brain have been thrown together as a tangled jumble of well, juststuff over the days. Elects camp, Jia's birthday, Council Exco elections, College Day, College Day preparations, House session, newspaper collection, impromptu class outing, Mayday concert, Venezia with half of 08S11, Hwa Chong with some 08S11 + Zhihao and Joseph, countless dinners and whatnots. I can't remember them distinctly. Each day has been a flurry of activities. Kerfuffle, hub-bub, hullabaloo but indistinguishable from one another. They are just days, with events falling into place like rat-a-tat-flump. Nope, no exhilarating highs or adrenaline-spiked lows of rollercoasters. But, still tons of fun. :)
I will start off with the earliest that I can remember: Elects Camp. Well, it was certainly an eye-opening experience, that I have emphasised on enough. The first thing we did was roll call, which we flubbed up. "ELECTS, STOP FIDGETING, AGAIN!", "DON'T ROLL YOUR EYES AT ME, AGAIN!", "ELECTS, HOW MANY TIMES MUST I SAY STOP FIDGETING, AGAIN!" were pretty much the standard-issue hollers from Weiwen, the head of discipline. If that wasn't bad enough, they proceeded with a bag check and accounted for every single item on the packing list. Example: "ELECTS, I give 30 seconds to take out all the items in your bag and line them up in neat rows before you.", followed by "ELECTS, your 30 seconds were long over. Where's your sense of urgency!" and "ELECTS, I give 30 seconds to put everything in front of you now into your bag". Yeahhh... Repeat that 10-20 times and very quickly, you'd get 53 nervous, perspiring elects being roasted in a tension-filled atmosphere. It was frustrating, amusing and kind of purposeful all at the same time. Discipline, yeah, that was the keyword for those three days.
For those three days, I was in Group 7, TROMBONES, along with Shu Hui, Molina, Melissa, Zi Xiang, Kok Leong and Kenneth. Quite a fun bunch of people and I'm glad for this chance to get to know them better. Our mentors were Jie Ying, Kok Hao, Suyi, Benjamin, Sebastien, Zi Zhao, Jing Ho, Tuan and Isabella and man, they were crazy people hahaha. Anyway to proceed with the chronological order of events, next up was flag-making, which was not a very significant event haha. Next came uh dinner, then talks and finally, Payback. Foreign concept alert! Okay, Payback is basically physical punishment for the mistakes we made (ie. being late for dinner, fidgeting during roll-call) Sit-ups, jumping jacks, rounds around the track, push-ups, yup, we did them all. It was tiring while it lasted bleh. Then bath-time, where I had a mini-tour of the hall, courtesy of Melissa heh. Then sleep, sweet sleep beckoned until 3am, when we had to go for the nightwalk. It was heaps of fun waiting there as a nerve-wrecked bunch and hearing the tormented screams of the earlier pairs haha. Was paired up with Zi Xiang and waha, the nightwalk was quite fun, yeah. The route behind the banner painting area terrified me, however, so I seized his arm with terrifying strength. Poor him haha. The walk wasn't particularly scary, until Michelle's wretching scream which shocked me- and Zi Xiang about ten seconds later. His reaction was that delayed hahaha. Other than that, it was cool..
What was not cool, however, was that by the time we ended, it was 4.30am and so, we couldn't return to sleep. Bah. Stuff happened in between which eventually led to Land Expedition. Land Ex was DA BOMB man. :) We were flagged off at 7am and we were to walk from NJ to, get this, SENTOSA. It sounded like an impossible task but as we marched along the route, it wasn't that bad after all. In fact, it was super fun! Overtaking other groups like swift and stealthy ninjas (not), Kenneth and his obsession with pushing people's butts with the Trombone flag, Shu Hui and Molina's everlasting stream of weird, funny conversation topics, cheering as we completed one-fifth of one page of five pages worth of map, Kok Leong and his "I carried 20kg bags before, this is nothing" insistence, chasing down other groups at traffic junctions and dunno, just falling into place and talking to whoever was next to you, Zi Zhao, Tuan, Kok Leong, Zi Xiang, Melissa, Shu Hui, Molina, Kenneth ecetera. I can't remember what we talked about but it bonded us together anyway. Although the initial noisy chatter eventually quietened along the way, there was a palpable sense of camaraderie and "we are in this together so heck it, let's finish it as one". Yup yup. :) And you know what, we managed to fulfil our target of reaching Sentosa at 9.30am.
Once there, we had to zip along Sentosa to different stations. First up, was the Merlion station where we had to advertise and promote a dustbin. It went pretty well heh. The rest didn't go too smoothly, however. Walked the Dragon Trail or something to some station and did some activity which involved some memorisation and some pen-searching. As you can tell, I can't really remember haha. Eventually, it started pouring so we sought shelter in front of some museum haha. Lunch! Followed by being ignored by the seniors haha and playing of lame games (think Vampire, thumb game) and singing of lame songs (think Singapore Town and accompanying actions). :D:D Followed by payback which was not so :D. Humph. Then the rain stopped so we had to rush along to the other stations. It was tough and damn, it was tiring. Melissa left our group then Molina, so at the end, we were down to five people. But something broke in us at the second last station and we became high high high! Enthusiasm flowed into us again and we did the games with a grin and jogged off to the next station where we did the tasklist with much energy, hopping and hopping for what is worth. Somehow, Jie Ying had the bright idea of us piggybacking each other to the bay station so off we went, jumping onto each other, taking a few staggered steps before changing haha. Shu Hui and I owned the guys though hahaha. Upon reaching the station, we broke into our Mission Impossible cheer and well, Land Ex ended with a bang heheh. But, that wasn't the end of our day for next came dragon boating!
The bus ride to Kallang was super fun heheh. Somehow, our brains all short-circuited and we derived laughter from the smallest of things ie. cold jokes, sick jokes and off-tangent topics. Ooh ooh and there was the "scandal" involving Jie Ying and Kok Hao hyak hyak. Their names are synonymous (wrong usage but the idea is there) with each other, wonder why? :D Eventually, we all nodded off and it was hilarious seeing the sleeping faces of the rest hahaha. On the way to the dragon boating place, Jie Ying & Kok Hao stole all our rations haha and Shu Hui and I became Molina's wings! :D Fun fun. Dragon boating wasn't too arduous, as well. It was rowing at your own pleasure and no pushyourselftothelimits-heaveho!. Not much anyway. Heh, it ended with a shower and on the bus back to school, Mylene and I taught Kenneth on the art of gossip and code names haha. :D
And nope, that wasn't the end of Saturday. After dinner and all that, was reflections and more Payback. Then, it was over. BUT, guess what, we had a surprise bunk call. It was 3am and suddenly, I sensed alot of movement so I was like "WTF! It's only 3am!" before I noticed how everyone had on panicky expressions. The task? Gather everyone down in the courtyard in 5 minutes. We misunderstood the instructions along the way and in the end, by the time everyone was down, the stopwatch timed 27 minutes. A nightmarish experience. We then proceeded to play blindfold games. First, we were led away from the parade square, blindfolded, and our mission was to find our way back and form a circle. It was pretty hilarious because I kept banging into walls and kicking into kerbs. Somehow, I ended up at the main gate hahaha. Melody, who was guiding me, kept giggling along the way. By some luck, I managed to reach the courtyard. The seniors attempted to confuse us by placing their hands in ours and leading us away or stomping on the ground. Eventually, I got so fed up that I pretty much attacked anyone who tried to get between me and the other elect whose hand I was holding haha. Somehow, I punched Kuan Loong's face by mistake hahaha. Wonder if he has forgiven me hahaha. Yup, anyway, we managed to complete the mission in about 100 minutes, which was apparently a record so hurray for 41st! After that was some shape-making game which was umm okay yeah.
Breakfast shalala then station games! Which was, at the risk of sounding repetitive, really fun! Hahaha first was animal noise-making game heh. Quackquackquack, moomoo and just much ado about nothing haha. Next was Endurance which was a killer station. We had to go up and down the steps to the canteen, run 1 round, then repeat the steps part, all under five minutes. I felt like dying man.. But we managed to pull through so yeah, go trombones! :D There was the football on four limbs game which was SUPAAAA FUN heheheh. Although it came right after the Endurance station, I played the whole thing haha. Then came some rearrangement game which was okay. Next was the wriggling in a line station which was quite fun yeah. Last of all was the clean-up game! Hahaha which was yeah, fun as well!
As you can tell, I'm running out of things to say. Hmm, after station games was more Payback but man aw man, the seniors were damn nice. They took on half of our punishments and did the push-ups and whatnot alongside with us. It was a great, uplifting feeling seeing them share the Payback with us. Yeah, so that wraps up Elects Camp. :)
Okay, I can't really remember what happened from then on. 25th April- I remember it clearly because it was Jia's birthday. Before meeting 4 of them at Holland V, I had blazer tailoring and house session discussion. The latter was hilarious. We all went nuts. Kept playing the finger game, Melinda & her stupidly funny expressions and chicken impersonation, dramatic lip-synching performances by yours truly, making air-smooches at Cheryl haha and manymanymore. Meeting Jia, Tiff, Grace and Rach and Holland V was the icing on the cake. Missed their company so much. :)
The day after- Bio SPA briefing, books for Cambodia packing, impromptu class outing and MAYDAY CONCERT. The books took a looong time to pack. We were the last group to finish, and that was with so many other people helping us. I must admit, I was quite touched when strangers- J2s, people we never even seen around the school- plonked down and helped us sort the books. There was a sort of a common identity, let'shelpeachotherout kind of spirit which I dunno, caught me by surprise. I didn't expect NJCians to be so neighbourly yeah. Saw alot of Cowboy. ^^ Hahaha. After that, we headed for Cine to lunch and shop around for stuff. Hahaha Cheryl Heng is an ageophilic, groupist, audrey fan, auntie wannabe but cannot be, bully etc etc hahaha. Started my stalkerish Book Of Cheryl as well hahaha. But the main event of that Saturday: MAYDAY DOWN TO EARTH CONCERT 2008.
It was, to say the least, A BLAST. My sister backed out on me so I asked Qiao Wei along and boy, was it a great decision haha. At first, we had terrible seats but Geraldine called so we crashed her box. Okay, we were very very very far away from the stage but hey, at least we had the central view. :D 我好爱五月天哦!太赞,太正点了! The energy was mindblowing and the atmosphere was so higggghhhh!! We were initially stuck in our seats, amidst very apathetic audience members, but we decided to make a move and stood at the rails hahaha. WHEEEEEE!! I LOVE MAYDAY!! As I am 五月天的忠实粉丝, it was uber fun to wave the lightsticks to the beat and scream out song lyrics heheh. Ahhhh, what can I say, the concert was EXPLOSIVE, DYNAMIC, ENERGETIC, (insert glowing praise here) hahaha. RABU RABU RABU~~! :)
Okay, I shall skip all the inbetweens to Friday and Saturday. It was half-day on Friday for College Day preparations. And man, I stayed in school until 9.45pm, doing up the TERRA stall and hanging the TERRA banners. Although it sounds like a chore, sai-kang alert!, it was super duper fun. Why? Because there was Melinda, Qiao Wei, Cheryl Heng and other crazeeee people with meee! :DD Hahaha we kept looking for ways to look/be busy. Had to fight for jobs to do hahaha ie. taping down the table cloths, wrapping the money boxes, making holes in the boxes (I ish butcher bwahaha), tying the TERRA TERRA TERRA OOMBABA banner (where I managed to display my Kungfu Dunk skillz haha.), painting designs on the boxes, hanging up the other TERRA banner. Yeah.. Okay, it is saikang but fun saikang. Hahaha eventually we got so high that Eugene, Kok Leong and I started having swordfights haha, and Melinda and Dilys were being crazeeee again and we were just dancing and jumping all over the place and both of them kept laughing at my (cool) chuai face haha. After all of zat, we went to KAP for dinner where we, well, ate and talked. Heheh.
College Day was yesterday and well, it was quite a long, boring affair. Arrived in school at about 9am to make the jelly. Hilarity ensued after the fumigator came and we were left scrambling, hurriedly placing lids on the jelly cups hahaha. Then Econs lesson, which was ..... and Chem practical which was ..... as well. Lingered around the school after Econs consultation until carpark duty called at 3.30pm, so off we went to do Bob a favour. It was kinda fun directing the cars. Until the taxi scraped the car, that is. HAHAHA "why did you let the taxi hit the car?" -_- Bob is stupid, that is one conclusion I came to. Anyway, went off for a break at about 5.30 and played some ball with soccer girls :D Then visited the fair with Melinda. It looked... vibrant and fun. Pumpkin was at the TERRA stall throughout, gah!!, not fated hahaha. Went down for duty at about 6.45 and something funny happened. One car drove around the track on the way out hahahha. Melinda ah! We were let off mercifully at 7.30 so off we went to visit the fair again. Clean-up was done pretty quickly and eventually, half of 08S11 went to Serene Centre to eat, where we congregated around kiddy rides and gossiped haha. Or in Elvin's case, play the thumb game haha. Yup yup, so that was College Day.
Phew, so that summarises just about everything! Sure, I have missed out several things like Exco elections- the aftermath, on the way home, when someone kept following us. No matter what Jaslin (我的同乡 who came back from Europe, hence the weird angmoh accent, which I copied and thus we conversed in an odd mix of Hokkien, Cantonese, Chinese and English and sang (offkey) old Chinese pop songs, which made Yi Le laugh at weirdness and highness of it all haha) and I did, ie. run in front suddenly or slow down to huddle with Charlyn and Yi Le, we still couldn't shake him off. GAAAAAH. Or or the time when Grace lost her balance and smacked a guy in that area HAHAHA and promptly nicknamed him Scary haha. (Apparently he gave a pained look and subsequently, told his friends about it. To make things worse, he's in Grace's GP class AND Grace keeps running into him, so yeah, scary hahaha) Or the laughter-inducing time in Venezia where us 8, 9 girls from S11 demolished a brownie and accompanying ice-cream scoop within 2 minutes HAHA. Yup yup, fun times. Fun times all.
Okay, my memory's all dried up now. I have so much to say about the Spring 2008 anime season but nope, now's not the time. I have to gush about Angus & Julia Stone as well but nope, not now either. It's time I started my homework though. Heheh so, so long everyone!
I will start off with the earliest that I can remember: Elects Camp. Well, it was certainly an eye-opening experience, that I have emphasised on enough.
