It has been a crazily hectic week. Ending rehearsals at 8pm, having dinners at 9pm, reaching home at 10pm, attempting to start work at 11pm, sleeping at 2am, waking up at 6am and napping at intervals through the day, depending on which lesson it was. Yeah, the days proceeded along in that vein. There were a lot of things to do, yet not exactly. I just didn't have time to do stuff. It was my self-proclaimed 'No-Homework-Week'. The real toil starts now, but stupid foolish me had to be possessed by another obsession: SHINee. Oh lordy lordy. It's Korean-mania all over again. But before we come to that, it is time to recap. :)
Finally, Teachers' Day Celebrations are over, marking the end of my ad-hoc. It is a bittersweet feeling. It might have been cumbersome and tiresome and eceterasome but, there were hearty laughs and good fun to be had along the way. And what a long way it has been. I still remember our first meeting in Paradiz Center in June, where we spent a long time coming up with themes. We ran through quite a few: Hollywood, Paparazzi, Greek and the first proposal came out with the title of Teachers' Night Celebrations. That was the first testament to Yann Qi's technical and administrative prowess, which left us all mouth agape in awe. Then came many updated drafts, with different build-up activities and different themes. Things kept changing until July, when we managed to settle on Cirque as our main theme. After which, the work on the nittygritty commenced. And it continued all the way to the sleepover on Thursday.
The sleepover was a new experience to me. It was tons of fun. We had a table overflowing with food, bestowed upon by loving parents, concerned teachers and bottomless appetities. Blowing balloons was a bonding activity, yeah, minus the lightheadedness. We huffed and puffed our way to larger lung capacities. Midway, we watched the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, courtesy of Yi Le's laptop and the projector. That was cool as everything was magnified and amplified. Then came supper when personality quizzes were all the rage. That was funny. Yann Qi came very close to eating rice with his bare hands. That was funny as well, especially after factoring in the shocked looks of Geraldine and co. Oh, there's the 10 as well hurr hurr. -cue the typical nudge and wink- And Yann Qi and his "continuous inflow of air" into a balloon, which somewhat resembled a suicide attempt by asphyxiation HAHAHA. Then, there was Ms Tay's deep-in-thought expression, when she was really pondering between two very mundane, -_-" choices HAHA. Somewhere along the way, we went out to test the banner. It was dark, Yi Le kept making lame scary jokes, the lights started flickering, the flagpole rattled, a bell chimed. Yeah, it was kinda spooky but kinda fun as well. Yeah, then came the 3am discussion about our greatest nightmare: rain in the middle of the programme. The fear only deepened as the clouds kept their relentless reddish hue. Then, a little bit of vectors and sleep, phew.
The actual day itself passed by in a blur. How unfair, especially since we spent three months planning for three hours that slipped past like three minutes. But there weren't major setbacks in the first part of the morning, thank goodness. The setting up of band stages, the placing of chairs, the first few performances went fine enough. I was dashing about like a mad chicken, crossing off props and cast members. But the rest had it way worse. :/ Then our greatest nightmare came true: slight rain after the end of Fashion Parade. It was fortunate that the clouds managed to hold until then though, as we managed to map out a backup programme for that. Council Production went pretty well, yeah. The crowd loved Dian Feng, Zi Xiang hammed it up like a pro and the rest did commendable jobs. Whoohooo. Hearing the laughter was a great validation for our efforts. I'm really thankful for the cast man. Really, thank you for putting in all the time and effort into rehearsals. You guys are amazing in general. <3
The celebrations wrapped up soon after the Council Production. Clear-up, clean-up and phototaking spree. Everything winded down too quickly. But overall, it was a nice end to a nice morning. And the day was set to get even better because..
I went back to SCGS. First thing: stepping into the hall and wham! all the familiar faces swivelled into view. It was as if our entire cohort returned for a visit. Then calls of "Hey, Audrey!" rang out from different places. I looked all about, to be greeted with and greeted with bright smiles and warm eyes. Instant 3-in-1 nostalgia packaged for you. I felt so loved and loving there and then. It was home; it felt like home, a second skin. Everything was where it was supposed to be, fits like a glove. At peace. It was wonderful to see everyone all over again, talking, catching up and sharing laughter all over again. I was ready to burst of happiness. Jia, Grace, Tiffany, Raina, Stephenie, Lala, Jane, Pau, Xiaomin, Jazreel, Shiyun, Pearlyn, Zihan, Lailing, Charlene and so many others. It felt so good to see their faces again. I didn't realise how much I had missed SC. All along, I had convinced myself that I was fine, NJ was a riot and life was dandy. True, things remain as they stand but, Friday revealed to me that there would always be a part of me, clad in skyblue, walking around the tessellated courtyard, looking out at the Raffles Town Club dome against bulbous grey clouds, inhaling the lemon disinfectant of the gym washroom and treading upon green tiled floors. Not very poetic but very true, how true, how true of the four years there. And SC Netball. I missed them all so much. Playing street netball, stopping after 10-15 minutes, sitting in a circle on the dusty floor, talking and talking, bum refusing to leave terra firma again. How could I have forgotten all that? Then lunch at Coronation with Pau, Grace and Charlene, just like old times. It felt great to be back, there are no other words to describe it.
If that wasn't good enough, the day only got better. Went to Grace's house after lunch. Signature Park is a third home to me now haha. Both of us, being pigs, conked out for 2 hours before heading to Tiffany's house. Had a nice conversation with her on the way. She is still so lazy hahaha. Jia, as usual, was the latest haha. Talked crap, watched crappy shows and trashy kpop mvs. But it was the kind of crap that I miss. Things felt comfortable, yeap. The night ended too soon and it was time to head home. Cabtime, cum spazzing session with Jia. That was when I had my formal introduction to SHINee. Yes, it's another Korean boyband but their dance steps were so slick and voices so snazzy that I couldn't resist. And that was when my new obsession was born. :)
And that was basically how my week went. It was -oh oh, wait for it! here comes the all-encompassing summary- fun. Got to know a few people better this week, one of them being my fellow 'deejay' Mindy. HAHA, the constant shoving of the mike to each other, the cheery 'have a nice day!!' in unison, our propensity to embarrassing things that we think nobody else will notice (think, fighting over things to do in rehearsals, looking through papers to look busy, turning around to hide behind a pillar to avoid being picked for hot seat) simultaneously and bursting into laughter. Hella cool. All the same, I am somewhat glad that TDC is over. Finally, it is time to buckle down and study. Promos are in 17 days. (!) But first, some relaxation yeah.. :)
